MAIN CONCEPT
«Green» Cargo(es) dropping
The proposed idea of the Cargo as the main element transforming Piraeus Tower in a landmark fitting for Piraeus Port works in both levels, low and high.
At 3rd floor marks the upward extension of the existing moving stairs at both 1st and 2nd floors which now start from the ground floor, and serves as shelter, precisely a “green” parallelepiped in the way of a “green wall”. It connects well with the adjacent market and makes the express way to the terrace café.
On top, a three-side cargo wraps an observatory deck and fulfills its role as a landmark well seen from the port and beyond. Sensationally hung on the corner of the south-west façade of the Tower it makes half of the added elements that signal the remodeling of its top floors, the other one being a three floor high golf practice construction.
The aforementioned golf practice along with a projecting swimming pool complement the amenities of a hotel proposed from 16th to 19th floors.
Framing the whole building by a elevated walk both a fast elevator in the main façade as well as an emergency staircase in the back are linked on a north-south axis which repeats as a canopy at the terrace café level acting as a plaza waiting to connect sometime in the future with a pedestrian walk starting from the port level.

From the 18th way down to 4th floor the existing offices are sustained with changes in both their elevations and layouts. In principal the side facing west gets deep recessions –sometimes two-storey high-, and the side facing east is treated with planted platforms projected through a “green curtain”. With the exception of the north façade which is covered with wind turbine heads the rest of the openings are covered with sun shade screens in the way of post-it puzzles, leaving random parts of the concrete frame exposed in memory of the Tower’s 30-year disuse.
